As part of a government initiative to boost the local economy, the Paroo Shire Council initiated the Cunnamulla Hot Springs project to increase tourism in the area. The project consisted of developing a contemporary hot springs facility with seven artesian baths, sauna, steam room, a riverwalk, riverboat experience and water supply mains pipelines through storage tanks that doubled as an emergency supply for the town grid.
